Program Admission Requirements for Adult Education

  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

  • Applicants must be formally withdrawn from their regular high school program.

 

 

Enrollment Process for James Irvin Education Center On-Campus and Online Courses

     The enrollment process can be completed at the James Irvin Education Center campus in our Adult Education office or online.  Please refer to the steps below to aid you in this process.For any questions regarding the enrollment process, please contact our Adult Education office at (352) 524-5738.

1.  If needed, see our Adult Education School Counselor to find the best program for you.

2.  Complete the Student Application  

Our online GED Prep classes are currently full.  If you would like to be put on our waiting list, please fill out the application above but do not pay.

3.  Pay the $30 non-refundable fee for your class. 

  • Fees can also be paid online through credit or debit card on Student Quick Pay.
    • When paying fees select Guest Account Sign Up and complete the appropriate steps.
    • Select the appropriate James Irvin Education Center (JIEC) program from menu and complete the checkout process.
  • Fees can be paid in person at the Adult Education office at the James Irvin Education Center campus by cash, check, or money order starting July 27.  Please call (352) 524-5738 for an appoint to come in to pay fees.

4.  Register for a placement test. 

  • Applicants must present a government issued Identification card on the day of the test.
  • For GED Preparation classes: TABE placement test (Test of Adult Basic Education). 
    • The test is approximately 5 hours.
    • The test is free to new/prospective students. 
  • For English Language classes: CASAS placement test (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems).   
    • The test is approximately 2 hours.
    • The test is free to new/prospective students.                          
  • Testing is held at James Irvin Adult Education in Building 6B by appointment. Appointments are scheduled online. 
  • TABE and CASAS testing hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Due to COVID-19, all testers will be required to wear face coverings during their test.

TABE Testing for Students Not Attending James Irvin Classes

     TABE tests can also be required for technical programs, childcare programs, law enforcement, and other programs.  If you are not going to be a student in a James Irvin class but would like to use our testing lab to take the TABE, please follow the steps below to sign up for a testing slot.

  • If you are attending a school Outside of Pasco County Schools, there is a $10.00 fee.
  • Fees can also be paid in the Adult Education office at the James Irvin Education Center campus or online through credit or debit card on Student Quick Pay.
    • When paying fees select Guest Account Sign Up and complete the appropriate steps.
    • Select the appropriate James Irvin Education Center (JIEC) program from menu and complete the checkout process.
  • Please bring Government issued ID for all testing.
  • The test is approximately 5 hours.
