Test of Adult Basic Education

The first step to enrolling in any of our Adult Basic Education (ABE) or GED® preparation classes is to take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). This test gives us important information for placement purposes. After testing, each prospective student is encouraged to meet with the school counselor to discuss program options. The cost of our classes is $30 per semester. Prospective students should plan to bring payment for class the day they take the TABE. We accept cash or check; credit card payments can be made online (convenience fee applies).

Graduation/Diploma

Students successfully completing the GED® preparation program may apply to take the General Educational Development examination. Students successfully completing the examination are awarded a State of Florida high school diploma which is recognized nationally as the equivalent to a high school diploma.

*Graduation is held twice a year (January and August). This is a cap and gown ceremony. You may provide your own gown or you may rent one from James Irvin Adult Education for a nominal fee.
